Our mission statement inspires, defines and directs every action within our college – from hiring faculty to creating assignments.    

Each year, we produce a faculty-led documentary and this year’s is about BESITOS, an incredibly successful program created for Latino students in southwest Kansas. We’ve also addressed refugees and how schools prepare for and welcome newcomer students. Other topics we’ve explored include Buffalo Soldiers, first-generation college students, the Underground Railroad, social justice in education and military life. All of our documentaries are free and available online and many have accompanying lesson plans.     

In addition, we hold an annual Indigenous People’s Day event led by Native American faculty. And, our college adopted the Call Me MISTER program to attract more men of color to the teaching profession.    

Diversity Assistantships and Points of Pride

Points of Pride  

• Our curriculum and instruction faculty members have a combined 1,000 years of K-12 teaching experience.   
• We have faculty and/or GTAs from Ecuador, Ghana, Pakistan, Vietnam, India, Mexico, Sweden, and Brazil.  
• We’ve hosted graduate students and teachers completing advanced professional development from Ecuador, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.  
• K-State was one of first universities in the nation to adopt “Joining Forces’ Operation Educate the Educator” program.   
• The K-State College of Education is the host institution for NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising  
• The college has earned 12 national prestigious awards since 2010 based on its strong academic programs and commitment to diversity, which has led to high placement rates for graduates.
