Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The Cross-Cultural Center, within Student Life, opened in the spring of 2017. The mission of the center is guided by the Student Affairs Learning Outcome of A Value and Respect for Differences – students will learn to recognize, respect, and value diverse experiences, ideas, backgrounds, and identities. Because we aspire for all students to develop this outcome, the Cross-Cultural Center is designed to be used by – and to enhance the development of – all Chapman students. We want students to gain greater insights into their own identity, develop a stronger sense of empathy for others’ identities, and to use their learning to help create a more positive and inclusive Chapman community. To facilitate this student learning, the CCC designs programs and experiences intended to expose all students to diverse ideas and perspectives, affirm the value of our students from underrepresented identities, and support students who are in need of additional help.
Diversity Initiatives
- Chapman students lead a wide variety of diversity and inclusion clubs, including the Asian Pacific Student Association, Queer and Trans People of Color Collective, Black Student Unionand Chapman Feminists. You can find a list of student diversity and cultural organization here.Aside from weekly meetings, these student organizations also host campus-wide events.
Our Programs
The Attallah College faculty, supported by four accreditations, strives to make a more just world through their teaching, scholarship and collaboration with local communities on various civic engagement initiatives. The Attallah College offers undergraduate education degrees, teacher credentials, and graduate degrees including a Ph.D. in Education. The college has multiple unique degree offerings in teacher education, special education, school psychology, school counseling and leadership. The Ph.D. in Education program began in 2007 and is considered by many to be the first step for Chapman University’s path to national stature.
The Single Subject Credential and Master of Arts in Teaching programs both include emphasis on the teacher as nurturer, moral educator, reflective practitioner, mediator of diversity, and change agent.
The Ph.D. in Education offers a unique combination of four emphases: Cultural and Curricular Studies, Disability Studies, Leadership Studies, and School Psychology.

Our Dean
Dean Grogan current research focuses on women in leadership, gender and education, the moral and ethical dimensions of leadership, and leadership for social justice.
Dean Grogan was recently named to the 2018 Edu-Scholar Public influence rankings for the seventh consecutive year. These rankings honor the 200 university-based education scholars in the U.S. who are doing the most to influence educational policy and practice.
