About Us

University School of Nashville is a K-12, independent, co-educational, non-sectarian day school established in 1975 as the successor to Peabody Demonstration School. USN is known for its academic excellence and for its commitment to putting students first.

02

Our Mission

University School of Nashville models the best educational practices. In an environment that represents the cultural and ethnic composition of metropolitan Nashville, USN fosters each student’s intellectual, artistic, and athletic potential, valuing and inspiring integrity, creative expression, a love of learning, and the pursuit of excellence.

03

Our Culture, Diversity & Equity

Diversity does not happen in isolation. In order to create a truly diverse community, all members play a significant role. It is an institution-wide commitment that welcomes administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and the community at large to participate. I invite you to help build on USN’s long-standing history of celebrating diversity and community. Please join us in this challenging, yet vital work.

Let’s spend the year considering the privileges we have as a diverse institution. Start Where You Are, But Don’t Stay There: Understanding Diversity, Opportunity Gaps, and Teaching in Today’s Classrooms by Richard Milner, IV states these five areas as crucial in “helping educators bridge and shed light on opportunity gaps”: Color blindness, Cultural conflicts, Myth of Meritocracy, Low Expectations and Deficit Mind-Sets and Context-Neutral Mind-Sets.

Our Recruitment

University School of Nashville’s location next to Vanderbilt University and its Peabody College for Teachers reminds us every day of our century-old roots in the demonstration school culture of innovation and educational best practices. It’s a vibrant educational community for both students and teachers.

A deep-rooted culture of achievement at USN means that students expect much of each other, and faculty benefit from that high standard. We seek educators who are enthusiastic about their own learning as well as their students’, and we offer many opportunities for professional development.

Our Teachers

Our commitment is to provide opportunities for teachers to shape their own progress in the field with the support and guidance of administrators who recognize the arc of a teacher’s career. At USN, summer opportunities abound for teachers to attend workshops and create curriculum to further their understanding of best practice and to renew, inspire, and energize themselves.

Average salaries $40,400-55,000
