DIVERSITY & EQUITY IN EDUCATION

About Us

Summit Camp is in its 5th decade serving special needs boys and girls ages 8 to 23. Summit has a long history of providing therapeutic recreational programs for youth that have social and emotional learning challenges. Our campers have diagnoses such as ADHD, Learning Differences, ASD, Tourette’s, Mood Disorders, and other neurological challenges that have affected their ability to find lasting friendships.

02

Our Mission

The mission of all of our programs is to provide our children with a safe, happy and enriching experience while at the same time offering their families a secure respite. We want our young people to learn and retain new skills and experience success. Our trained staff provide opportunities for social skills development and interpersonal growth. We provide supervised social skills groups professionally directed.

03

Our Culture, Diversity & Equity

Summit Camp is a non-denominational program, and all religious services offered are entirely voluntary for campers to participate at will. Summit provides Shabbos services Friday evening and Saturday morning services at our camp location.

Transportation by van is provided on Sunday morning to both Catholic Mass and Protestant services at locations less than 5 miles from Summit campus. Staff accompany campers at all times. Staff are also permitted to attend the services of their choosing.

Our Recruitment

ACA Accreditation means that Summit Camp & Travel cares enough to undergo a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation — from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. American Camp Association® collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp and on travel reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp and travel operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

Our Teachers

A summer working at Summit is fulfilling, challenging, and for many, a defining moment of early adulthood. Working and living in an environment where you serve to help youth that have struggled to find acceptance is both amazingly rewarding and intensely difficult at times. Your own personal development- the ability to demonstrate resilience, professionalism, and endurance- will be tested in entirely new ways.

We believe……

With its roots in special education and learning support programs, Summit has always pursued professional growth. Summit also became a member of the American Camp Association, rising to the standards of that body and retaining membership in ACA for decades. Summit has developed programs and curriculum which have been modeled by other programs in helping our youth to have fun and find success in a recreational environment. Summit continues to engage actively in both the camp and special needs communities, endeavoring to bring our participants the best in therapeutic recreation, social learning, and personal development. Summit’s camp, travel, and weekender programs have thus provided our kids and teens with a community and tradition that they are proud to call their own- and we are honored to continue.
