Travis Dempsey

ABOUT

Travis Dempsey served as the 6th grade math teacher and grade level chair at Rise Academy in Newark, New Jersey. During his five years at Rise Academy, he successfully integrated blended learning into his classroom and throughout the school. His innovative work earned him the “Freedom” award from KIPP New Jersey, recognizing his technological innovations and the creation of the math bar in his classroom. 

Beyond the classroom, Travis was actively involved in coaching cross country, boys’ basketball, and a boys’ 5K running club. He was also part of the 2014-2015 Teacher Leader cohort through KLSP and worked as a Corps Member Advisor at the New York City Institute during the summer of 2010. 

Before joining Rise Academy, Travis taught 7th and 8th grade math and science in the Bronx. He graduated from Syracuse University with a B.A. in Television, Radio, and Film, as well as Economics. Additionally, he earned a Master’s in Secondary Math Education through Lehman College while participating in Teach for America.
