The DIVERSITY in Ed Watchlist

Dr. Ismael Vivanco

“I am deeply honored and greatly value the trust that our board, staff, and community have placed in me. I look forward to working with this great team of dedicated professionals serving school staff and students across our region.”

ABOUT

Dr. Vivanco recently joined the Northwest Educational Service District 189 (NWESD) after serving as superintendent in the Mount Vernon School District since July 2020. Before that, he was the contracted superintendent in the Orondo, Palisades, and Entiat school districts as part of his role with the North Central Educational Service District (NCESD).
Interestingly, Dr. Vivanco has prior experience with the NWESD. In the early ’90s, during his college years, he worked as a Skagit Valley recruiter for migrant youth participation in preschool and summer school programs, and he also served as an outreach coordinator for migrant children in Skagit and Whatcom counties in 1991 and 1992.
The NWESD provides services and resources to 35 school districts, as well as Tribal Compact Schools and private schools, across a five-county region.
