Dr. Darren Schwartz was named the Interim Superintendent of Waterbury Public Schools by the Board of Education on August 20, 2024. Schwartz has previously served WPS as instructional leadership director, chief academic officer, and deputy superintendent.

Schwartz believes that education is a crucial public service and vital to a prosperous and sustainable democracy. As a Waterbury resident and a WPS educator since 2012, he takes tremendous pride in the responsibility bestowed upon him as Interim Superintendent.

Schwartz aims to be an effective educational leader who creates a more just school system for all of Waterbury’s students. His vision is for the WPS community to work toward empowering our youngest citizens in leading fulfilling lives while contributing meaningfully to our city.
