ABOUT US

With a 30-year history of success, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program offers our students the tools needed to be successful secondary classroom teachers. We develop teachers who use research-based methods while promoting student-centered teaching models to facilitate critical thinking among PK-12 students.

Our faculty and staff in the Department of Education work closely with our students to ensure that their educational goals are met. Our graduate programs are tailored to support candidate pass rates on the New York State Certification Exams and ensure that our graduates are prepared to teach in secondary or PK-12 education.

DIVERSITY & EQUITY STATEMENT

Clarkson seeks to promote a community that respects and engages individual differences (e.g., personality, learning styles, and life experiences) and group/social differences (e.g., race/ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin, and ability as well as cultural, political, religious, or other affiliations) in the service of building a more robust, inclusive learning and working environment.  To this end we seek to promote an intentional and inclusive engagement with diversity by increasing community members’ awareness, content knowledge, cognitive sophistication, and emphatic understanding of the complex ways individuals interact within systems and institutions.  We do this not only to improve our Clarkson Community, but instill in the values of diversity in our community members so that they may promote inclusive engagement in other communities to which they will belong.
