About Us
We Speak Your Language
The New York City Department of Education is the department of the government of New York City that manages the city’s public school system. The City School District of the City of New York is the largest school system in the United States, with over 1.1 million students taught in more than 1,800 separate schools.
The New York City Department of Education is committed to providing every single child, in every classroom, in every New York City public school, with a rigorous, inspiring, and nurturing learning experience. That is true regardless of family income, race, nationality, disability, language spoken at home, sexual orientation, or gender identification.
Our Commitment
The Equity and Excellence for All agenda has been central to today’s improved student outcomes, including the highest-ever graduation and college enrollment rates, the lowest-ever dropout rate, and rising scores on state tests.
Our Culture, Diversity & Equity
The DOE is committed to creating and supporting learning environments that reflect the diversity of New York City. We believe all students benefit from diverse and inclusive schools and classrooms. We strive to welcome and support all students, families, and school staff.
Aspiring Teachers
The NYC Department of Education (DOE) welcomes all aspiring teachers to learn more about the various pathways to becoming a teacher in one of our 1,800 public schools or early childhood education centers across the City.
NYC Men Teach
NYC Men Teach engages and recruits men of color to become teachers in New York City by providing early career support, professional development, mentoring, and networking services.
Our Mission
NYC Men Teach engages and recruits men of color to become teachers in New York City by providing early career support, professional development, mentoring, and networking services.
Our Initiative
The NYC Men Teach initiative was created to inspire more men of color to become teachers in New York City through engagement and recruitment efforts.
-
NYC Men Teach is the nation’s boldest effort to diversify the teaching pipeline by recruiting and retaining 1,000 additional men of color to teach in NYC schools, where currently less than 8% of the teachers are men of color (less than 2% nationally). A collaboration with NYC Department of Education, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Young Men’s Initiative, and the City University of New York, the NYC Men Teach program seeks to impact people, practice, and policy around diversity in our schools and classrooms. In addition to recruiting additional men of color and the differing perspectives they bring to our students and staff, NYC Men Teach builds individual leadership capacity, and promotes educator effectiveness through professional development, personal growth, and a village of support to help male educators of color thrive and stay in the profession.
Teacher Recruitment
The NYC Department of Education (DOE) welcomes all aspiring teachers to learn more about the various pathways to becoming a teacher in one of our 1,800 public schools or early childhood education centers across the City.
Whether you are a certified teacher looking for an immediate full-time opportunity, or uncertified but committed to becoming a teacher, we have a career pathway that is right for you.
